A commentary Opinion article from WWU Library director Chris Cox appeared in the Bellingham Herald this weekend detailing the services that Whatcom Libraries Collaborate is currently offering everybody in Whatcom County. Our library directors continue to do a fantastic job of making services go smoothly for everyone.
One of the services Mr. Cox mentioned was a joint Whatcom catalog that will allow to search everybody’s library simultaneously. I thought I’d check it out and see how it works.
The best place to find it is in the guide created by WWU librarians for the One Card program (http://libguides.wwu.edu/whatcomlibrariesonecard). It looks like this:
Try searching for something that will appear in more then one library such as Thomas Friedman’s “The World is Flat“. Up pops the results screen showing that it is indeed available from several of our local libraries. With your public library card you can request a BPL/WCLS copy to be sent almost anywhere in the county – otherwise you can go yourself to the owning library and check out your book (double check that they do indeed have a copy on hand before you head out – computers are sometimes wrong 😉 )
And there you have it. I’m going to have to do some research and figure out how to get that widget into more places. 😀
